Frequently Asked Questions

What age do I need to be to participate? All ages and levels are welcome! We have worked hard to provide ample activities for the player just starting out and the experienced player.
Will dinner be provided? Your registration includes a catered Italian dinner with vegetarian options and 1 drink. Dinners a la carte are also available for family and friends at $5 each. Additional drinks (water and soft drinks) will be on sale for $1. Since there is limited time between the dress rehearsals and the performance, we feel that there won't be enough time to eat offsite.
How about lunch? We encourage you to bring your own bag lunch. Food and drink are allowed in the cafeteria, but only water is OK in all the other facilities.
Can family members, friends and the general public go to the concerts? How much does it cost? The concerts are free and open to the general public. We encourage everyone to come hear featured artist Dr. Steven Gross perform with collaborating artists Leslie Hart, Sadie Glass (natural horn specialist) and Eric Zivian as well as all the horn choirs. Everyone is also encouraged to come and take part in the pasta dinner prior to the evening concert ($5/dinner) and the free after concert mixer in the cafeteria.
What is the dress code for the concert? Dress is casual for all participants performing.
The after concert mixer sounds fun. Should I bring anything? Yes. Please bring finger foods (sweet or savory). We will have some food, but the more plates we have, the more variety we'll be able to provide. You can drop the food off anytime during the day at the registration table in the cafeteria.
I'm not sure if I can make it. Can I register at the South Bay Horn Day? Yes. Onsite registration is $40. We encourage advance online registration by March 31, 2015 at 11:59pm because it helps us to better plan and organize the horn choirs and flow of the event. Also, all participants that sign up by March 31 will receive their name in the program if they are playing in a horn choir as well as a printed South Bay Horn Day badge.
How can I spread the word? Tell your friends and family to come to the concert. It's free. We would love to have them attend. Send interested horn players to this website.
What are the differences between the three horn choirs? The choirs are divided up by level and ability. Based on the responses we receive from the online registrations (age, level, range), we will assign you to an appropriate choir. Music will be emailed a week prior to the event, so you have a chance to practice. All registrations made less than a week prior will be sent music as soon as their registration is processed.
Can I get a schedule for the event? Yes. Please click the following link for the complete schedule - Horn Day 2015 Schedule.
How do I get to Mountain View High School? Is there free parking? There is plenty of free parking along with bike racks and a nearby bus stop serviced by the 51. For a Google map of the school, click here.
Will wireless internet access be available? Yes. Instructions on how to login will be available at the registration table.
I'd like to perform in the mock audition for Dr. Steven Gross. How do I get considered? If you would like to perform, please email the host, Daniel Wood, and let him know you are interested. Please include your name, age, and private teacher if applicable. You will be emailed the mock audition list. Spaces are limited, so spots will be given in the order they are received. The mock audition is suitable for advanced intermediate students to professionals. Knowledge of standard orchestral excerpts is a must.
